I live in Miami but I still call Long Island home. I was fortunate to spend the last 5 years of my Long Island life in Long Beach, where I learned how to paddle board and eventually paddle surf. I've managed to surf many locations in the area and here is the list of The Best Places to Surf on Long Island.
First, be sure to prepare yourself with surf gear you'll need.
Don't forget to surf with a GoPro to capture your rides!
In order to experience the best surfing on Long Island, you have to own a wetsuit.
And of you course you'll need board shorts or a bikini for the summer.
Where exactly? 92nd Street is the best spot. Look for nice breaks in the winter. It can get very crowded due to it's close proximity to public transportation from the 5 boroughs.

Where exactly? The break is relatively similar all throughout the West End due to jetties at every other block. My favorite is between Indiana Ave and Connecticut Ave. In the summer you can't surf anywhere you want to though, there is 1 or 2 designated surfing areas.

Where exactly? Anywhere along the boardwalk, but Lincoln is where the surf cam is!

Where exactly? Just north of where you'll park is the best spot. There is only one way to access the beach, so just head to your left.
Parking: Plenty of space in the lot. Sometimes the gate is closed at first light.

Parking: Plenty of space in the lot. Not usually free.

Where exactly? Near the jetty, or wherever you can find a spot. It gets crowded sometimes. This is one of the best-kept secrets in the entire northeast. (shhh)
Parking: Off-Road permit required. Parking is on the sand!
Surf Forecast: Unavailable, but most use Fair Harbor's cam.
Where exactly? Similar to Gilgo's break. Field 4 is usually the best. You can't surf everywhere though.
Parking: Plenty of space in the lot. Not free.

Where exactly? Consistently rated one of the best surf towns in the US. Cliffs and great waves. Closest commercial airport is 2 hours away, but the drive is worth it.
